Griffin started shaping at the age of 15 in his parents backyard in Long Beach, CA. His desire to make a career out of his shaping hobby led him to get a job as a shop kid at a local glass shop in Costa mesa, CA. It was here that he would learn the complete surfboard building process and meet his mentor Bruce Jones.
Bruce Jones took Griffin under his wing at a young age and Griffin would spend several years working closely with Bruce and they would eventually move their operation and begin working together out of Waterman's Guild in Santa Ana, CA. While working at Waterman's Guild Griffin continued to hone his craft and begin shaping for various other Orange County surfboard companies.
Today griffin has shaped over 7,000 surfboards and continues to work out of his shaping bay at Waterman's Guild using the skills taught to him by his legendary mentor each day.
